Not every camera sees in the dark, and a camera that cannot is useless for exactly the hours you probably bought it for.
Assume it does not, until the page says it does
Night vision is a specific feature, not a default. If the room, corridor or driveway is ever unlit, check the product page for it before anything else. Use the “Sees in the dark” filter to see only the models that have it.
Infrared gives you range, not colour
Most night vision works by infrared, which produces a monochrome image over a limited distance. It is enough to see that someone is there and what they did. It is not always enough to identify a face at the far end of a yard.
Glass and glare
A camera behind glass reflects its own infrared back at itself and produces a white wash. If you are pointing one through a window, that is worth testing before you commit — which is something we can demonstrate in the store.
Frequently asked
Does night vision work in complete darkness?
Infrared models do, within their stated range. Low-light models need some ambient light.
Will it record colour at night?
Infrared night vision is monochrome. Some models switch to colour when there is enough light.
